Boost 1.45 installed on FSU HPC |
|
The Boost 1.45.0 C++ libraries are now available on all HPC login and compute nodes. Boost is a collection of high quality, general purpose C++ libraries, several of which will be included in the future standard C++0x. Exception handling, math, serialization, MPI, and image processing are just a few of the topics covered.

Python 2.6 And Scientific Packages Now Available On HPC |
|
The FSU HPC now has an installation of Python 2.6.5, including numerous supporting packages, on every log-in and compute node.
Python is a general purpose programming language used around the world for coding desktop and web applications, scripting, and more. Version 2.6 currently represents the most widely used and supported version of the language for add on packages and libraries. Python is becoming an increasingly popular choice among scientists and researchers for post-processing, plotting, and 'glue' scripting. In some cases, it may even be used as the primary language for model programming.

FSU Students Selected for SC10 Volunteer Program |
|
Verónica Vergara Larrea and Ian Johnson were selected as student volunteers for the SuperComputing 2010 Conference in New Orleans, Louisianian. Student volunteers receive funding to attend the meeting and will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest high performance computing and networking technologies and meet leading researchers from around the world while contributing to the success of SC10.

SC10 Is Just Around The Corner |
|
Are you planning to attend the SuperComputing 2010 conference in New Orleans? FSU's shared HPC will have also attend it and we invite you to give a technical talk in our booth on the main exhibit floor.

![[cone]](/images/tcone.gif) The HPC will be upgraded this summer, however, unlike previous years,
this will be done in two distinct phases. In phase 1, the compute
nodes from the 2007 acquisition will be moved from the Sliger data
center to the server room in the Department of Scientific Computing
(DSC) and the general access queue will be disabled. In phase 2, new compute nodes will be installed in the Sliger building.

The HPC staff is happy to announce that we updated the HPC website to reflect the new style of the Florida State University. Our webmaster worked hard to get the same look and feel as the website of the department of Scientific Computing.

Annual Call for Ownership in HPC |
|
FSU faculty with dedicated computing and storage needs are invited to buy into the shared-HPC facility during the HPC annual "Call for ownership." This is the fourth such call that we have made in as many years and the fourth year that we are able to match faculty purchases with funds contributed by Information Technology Services and the College of Arts and Sciences.
