RCC Launches New Web Site

Preview the new RCC web site by going to http://rcc.fsu.edu.  One of first things that you'll notice about our new site is the new name.  RCC is short for the Research Computing Center. High Performance Computing (HPC) is still at the core of what we offer; however, the new name is meant to reflect the fact that we support more than HPC because there is more to computational and data intensive research.

Account Management Temporary Down (Feb 18)
The Account Management system is temporary unavailable, because of a move from the VM to our new SKY VM cluster. It will be back before the end of today (Mon Feb 18, 2013).

2012 Upgrade

Work related to the forthcoming HPC system refresh is well underway.  At this time we expect that to be able to refresh the system by the middle or late October.

FSU Junior Receives Prestigious Goldwater Scholarship

Dan Stribling, a Florida State University student who conducts research in computational chemistry, has received a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, awarded to the nation’s brightest mathematics, science and engineering college sophomores and juniors.

Access 700 Cores with Condor

Up to 700 processor cores are now available from HPC log in nodes through a system called Condor. Condor is a job submission system tailored to run large batches of serial jobs. The FSU Condor system scavenges cycles on machines that were donated to FSU and are now housed in the Department of Scientific Computing's data center. Click here for details.

Research Computing on Multi-core and Many-core systems, March 10th -- FREE!!!

Join us Saturday, March 10th at the FSU Conference Center for a one day workshop on "Multi-core and Many-core systems". Representatives from Intel and Nvidia will present hardware roadmaps, software environments, and discuss some tips and tricks to getting the most out of their multi-core architectures.  This is a statewide event and a great opportunity for you to meet with people from other universities working on similar problems.

2011 Upgrade

During the last two weeks of September 2011 (09/19 - 09/30), the HPC will have its yearly upgrade. During this period, we will perform a major upgrade of the operating system on our compute nodes, login nodes and interactive cluster: we will switch from CentOS 5.4 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.1. This switch was necessary since the Linux kernel in centos does not fully support some our newer hardware. The transition to RHEL 6.1 has a number of implications for users of our cluster and they are described in this document.

FSU's Shared-HPC to Support Scientists in Japan

FSU's Shared-HPC facility is now offering scientists in Japan access to compute cycles and data storage resources while they recover from recent tragic events related to the magnitude 9 earthquake and subsequent tsunamis.

HPC Installs Interactive Vizualization Cluster

The HPC staff is currently installing a new interactive cluster designed for GPU computation/visualization. The system consists of one Dell PowerEdge C410X PCIe expansion chassis which houses 16 high-end Nvidia M2050 GPGPU cards. This chassis is connected to two Dell c6105 servers-chassis, with each node containing 4 dual 6-core compute nodes; each node will be connected to two GPGU cards.
