The SSH File Transfer Protocol is a network protocol that provides file access, file transfer, and file management functionality. This will allow you to move files from your computer to the hpc and from the hpc back to your computer. You can setup directories and move files around the hpc using this protocol.
1. Install WinSCPWinSCP is a free SFTP client. In order to upload files to the HPC either the SFTP or SCP protocols need to be used. You can download WinSCP Here. Once downloaded, doble click on the file to start the installation wizard. Click through the wizard and accept the default options to complete the installtion of WinSCP. When it asks you weather to install PC Tools Registry Mechanic, select "Do not install Registry Mechanic".
2. Connect to the HPC
In order to connect you must first figure out which login node you should
log into.
3. Browsing the directory structureOnce connected on the right side of the program will be a directory listing. On the left side will be a listing of the directory structure on your own computer. You can now browse the files on the hpc on the right side and the files on your computer on the left. To open a directory double click on it and it will show you the listing inside that directory.
4. Uploading a file or directoryIn order to upload a file to the cluster browse to it on your computer first. Then browse to the directory on the HPC you wish to upload it to. In order to copy from your computer onto the HPC drag the file from the left side to the right side. A dialog box will pop up. Select copy to start the file transfer.
5. Creating a directoryIn order to create a directory browse to the directory in which you wish to create a new directory. At the bottom of the WinSCP windows is a button that says "Create Directory". Either press this button or press F7 on your keyboard to create a directory. A dialog box will pop up and will ask you to enter the name of the directory. One you enter the name select OK. A new directory with the name you entered will be created.
6. Create and edit a text fileTo create a file first browse to the directory you in which you wish to create the file. Select the Files menu at the top of WinSCP. It is the third menu item from the left. Select New->file from the menu. This will prompt you to name your file. Name the file and select OK. To Edit this file Right Click on it and select "Edit". This will bring up an editor window allowing you to make edits to the file. |
