The SSH File Transfer Protocol is a network protocol that provides file access, file transfer, and file management functionality. This will allow you to move files from your computer to the hpc and from the hpc back to your computer. You can setup directories and move files around the hpc using this protocol.
1. Install CyberduckThe recomended program for sftp on a mac system is Cyberduck. Among other features Cyberduck is an open source sftp client for the mac. You can find Cyberduck HERE. Once downloaded, click on the file to unzip it. Once unzipped drag the duck icon into your applications folder. You can now run cuberduck by finding it in your applications folder and clicking on it.
2. Connect to the HPC
In order to connect you must first figure out which login node you should
log into.
Once you select Connect you will be connected to the HPC. 3. Browsing the directory structureOnce connected Cyberduck will display a listing of all the files and directories available to you. If this is your first time connecting this listing will be empty. Double clicking on a directory will open it and allow you to browse its contents. Pressing the trianble pointing up will bring you to the directory containing the one you are browsing.
4. Uploading a file or directoryIn order to upload a file browse to the directory you wish to upload in. Right above where it says Action there is a pulldown menu. From this menu select "Upload". You can now select a file or directory that you can upload to the HPC.
5. Creating a directoryIn order to create a directory browse to the directory in which you wish to create a new directory. If this is your first directory you are creating, then you will not need to browse. In the Action pulldown menu select "New Folder". This bring down a dialog allowing you to enter the name of your new folder. Enter a name and select "Create".
6. Create and edit a text fileTo create a file first browse to the directory you in which you wish to create the file. In the Action pulldown menu select "New File". A dialog box will drop down and ask for the name of your new file. Enter a name and select "Create". Your new file should appear in the file listing inside of cyberduck. If it does not you may have to press the refresh button on the toolbar. Select your newly created file. In order to edit this file select "Open in Editor". An editor will open and you will be able to edit this file. When you are done editing close the file. There are some cases where the "Open in Editor" option is grayed out and unable to be selected. In this case you may first have to rename the file to give it a .txt extension. To rename a file select "Rename" from the action menu. You will then be able to add or remove a .txt extension or rename the file to anything else. |
