|EMBOSS: The European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite|
EMBOSS comes as a part of the Rocks Bio Roll, and as such it is available on all HPC nodes. It is an extensive suite of programs for sequence analysis, similar to the GCG package, which may be more intuitive to run, but EMBOSS is freely available.
Using EMBOSS on HPC
The EMBOSS suite has much overlap with the GCG package, which may be easier to run. However EMBOSS is available on all HPC nodes and is fully scriptable, so it may be more appropriate for pipeline and multi-node applications. Incredibly brief documentation is included with the Rocks Bio Roll; much more comprehensive documentation is available through the EMBOSS home page. The path to all EMBOSS applications is assigned by activating the Bio Roll. EMBOSS also includes a Java driven graphical user interface called Jemboss, but the local implementation remains to be tested.
